Also note that amdgpu-pro installs some xorg configuration stuff under /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d - this didn't seem to present a problem on my headless system, but for some reason it did on my current rig, and I had to delete (or move) the 20-amdgpupro out of that folder before my xorg.conf took effect.
