KFGO, a US news radio station recently reported a great news for all consumers. World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and investment firm BCG Digital Ventures has recently launched OpenSC, a global digital platform that enables its users to track products and goods. This technology developed in Australia allows people to scan QR codes to determine the product’s origins, learn about how it was produced and follow the product’s expedition from its source to the consumer’s houses.

OpenSC uses the blockchain technology to gather information and store and distribute accurate data such as the product’s origin, movement from the origin to its destination, and its storage details. Blockchain technology is a tool that ensures security of data distribution through encryption. It records and verifies details and makes sure that changes are seen by everyone in the network.

With the use of a smartphone, all details of the food people consume are now easier to identify. And since most people use smartphones nowadays, it would be a lot more suitable for all. With this technology, people can now ascertain whether the product they are buying is ethical, distributed legally, imported or local, sustainable and safe in general—making meals healthy and truly happy for everyone.
