Stuck at block #98735

Hello, I just want to say from the get-go I'm a average computer user and don't have any programming skills whatsoever. I recently downloaded and manually installed the latest stable version of AlethZero Ethereum client on Windows 7 from Github and wanted to get an Ethereum account.

After I run alethzero.exe the client seems to connect to only 1 peer poc-7.ethdev.com with an IP address 5.1.83.225, I can't see any other accounts in the account window and the block number on the testnet is #98735. I went ahead and requested some ether to be send to my newly created Ethereum account address 81558e94e71f2655a8bf8fa8ae2cb1d34fe6a057 from the Wei Faucet but the AlethZero client shows balance of 0. I looked up the address on http://etherapps.info and it shows balance of 855 ether.

The https://stats.ethdev.com/ shows that current block number is #362389 so I guess I'm mining on the wrong blockchain.

Here is the excerpt from the log:

Besides the obvious question on how to connect to the right blockchain I would like to find out if:
  • the account addresses and corresponding private keys stay valid after the switch-over to the mainnet?

  • how to backup your private keys?

  • how to add more peers? (I've tried using the „Connect to peer...“ option but it doesn't seem to work.)

Hi @Mateusz, please raise any bug you found on the relevant github issue section: (https://github.com/ethereum/cpp-ethereum/issues, but first insure you've updated to the latest devel and tried once more.

    Regarding your other questions:
    - "the account addresses and corresponding private keys stay valid after the switch-over to the mainnet?": yes, the mechanism to generate them won't change (obviously balances if any would be wiped out during Genesis).
    - How to backup your private keys?. On AZ, select the key in the list, then "Tools > Export selected key", copy the string
    - How to add more peers? . If you really really want more peers, manually add some that you find on stats.ethdev.com. You can't be guaranteed they will 'stick' but it won't hurt. Also don't forget to increase the number in "Ideal peers".
