Is Note++ ok? What about Code Writer?
When I save, what file extension should I use on Windows 8.1?
Also, I was learning Python to write contracts because of Serpent, but now I don't know if that's good for transitioning to Solidity?

The extension does not matter but by convention I would advise ".sol"
