Hi,
I have been searching the forum for some mods or configs for the msi rx 480 4gb i can not get passed 22mhs.
I have managed to find a bios rom for the 8gb which got me to 29mhs , with a little more tweaking i could probably get it to 30 31.
If someone could assist me with the rx 480 4gb please pm me or msg here.
Thank you,
Comments
Since i read about these cards and am only going to work with MSI for the time being, i am getting an ASUS RX 480 8GB STRIX to test something else since the vram and the pcb is pretty solid.
but i managed to get the MSI RX 480 4GB to 29mhz stable.
So from left to right i have RX 480 4GB , RX 480 8GB , RX 480 8GB

the 8gb models are using a modded bios, and the 4gb model is using a strap of 1500 which i did in watttool and the core clocks and modded the bios , later on when i get rest of my farming gear ill just run a script for the watttool .ini to pick up the strap and clocks to save time.
Any questions ill try assist
if anyone can direct me into the right direction of getting around 10-20gpus not retail price obvs...
Thanks,
Happy mining.
UPDATE:
Bought a new Corsair AX1200i Power supply, for my 6gpu rig.
I built custom housing, maybe i should start a separate thread for this. I know i maybe bit late for mining - but i believe ETH will go up and am keeping all eth coins, and sell some bitcoins/litecoins/ether i got to cover some of these costs.
Plan is to run a 500mhs-1k mhs setup soon 2017.
And since you rarely share your code these days without some kind of compensation, it's not really relevent that _you_ can do it. But, good job bragging I guess? I have plenty of non-public tools I've built, but I don't go around forums making indignant posts about them to make my epenis larger.
or go dirrectly to 8GB ref http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150770&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-Advanced Micro Devices-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=5257136&SID=ShopAMD
your experience is very necessary for me.
thank you in advance
Best regards
Alex
You are better off with the 8GB version if the price is right.
I chose MSI as they have a good cooler and they run very quiet. As you can see with the 8gb version and the 4gb version you can reach similar results with a bit of tweaking.
And no dont buy the reference model - for the sheer fact of resale value non-refference for the win

price is different and visualisation too...
The design and cooling is very good on the Gaming models. On the Armor model i suggest checking out some reviews.
Thanks,
It seems like the slightest change in Afterburner or wattman will cause my miner (claymore) to shut down within seconds of starting it. Having some challenges modding these settings.
Any help on these MSI RX 480 ARMOR 8G OC 8GB is appreciated. Thank You.
edited: im getting 24.7 MH/S @ factory.
Thanks again for your help. Awesome altruism.
So I am looking for suggestions for mobo that can run with 6/7 cards.
@lummujaj : would you suggest a good mod for Sapphire RX480 8GB cards? I was initially planning on using Boysies mod but have never got past the mobo stage.
@seanbw1609 i inspected almost all GPU mods , and learned from all of them , than i flashed mine by my "own" bios mods , i created bios for my needs , and from what my cards can handle , every card is different , example one of my cards cannot go more than 2080 mhz and other (same model) i pushed them up to 2150 , but in eth im stable 1100/2100 for weeks , and 850w with at wall from 7 gpu rig 204.2 mhs .
@refv436 I am not sure. I seem to be unlucky. Only one board worked out of four. Then it stopped working. One thing I picked up though. After a time, my hdmi seems to lose contact and stop showing. Only way to bring them back is to reconnect physically. Don't know if its my TV playing up (Samsung) or its my hdmi that is dud.
your post is the only one that appears to did the mod successfully for those gpu...... i never have modified a rom, can you please to tell me how i can do it and where can i get the files? i'll appreciate your help
Like @jotay, I'm also looking for instructions on how to mod my MSI RX 480 4GB to get 29 MH/s like you. Out of the box I'm just getting 22.
since the mod - i modified mine to be around 28.2mhz running at 72wats.
i just upped the mhz by 100 all depends on your memory but i can push it again to 29.2mhz

To add - if you want me to log in remotely - i use TeamViewer - i can help also.
Let me know
any donations welcome :P

eonezzz contacted me promptly and we discussed my GPU and I downloaded all
the utilities/files he requested.
When we both had time, he logged into my computer via teamviewer. I want to address this
because I am sure most people are like me... A little worried about letting a stranger remote
into their system. I was worried but I figured the juice was worth the squeeze. I watched everything he did to learn and because I'm cautious.
I will say this, he did absolutely nothing that was not professional. I am sure there are plenty of malicious people out there but eone is not one of them. I am so confident in his integrity and talent that I will have him help me with scaling my mining!
Now, on to the stats.
I was doing a proof of concept thing with 1 GPU. An 8gb version 480.
I was getting ~24.8mh/s running the stock ROM.
After eone I am getting ~28.8.
Of course this fluctuates but you will see a consistent 15-16% increase in mh/s over stock. It will spike at 17% on occasion but don't count on it to average 17%.
I am actually hoping we can push it a little further but it may leave us both sweating. Not sure.
I will say that this ROM is 100% stable. No reboots or crashes.
Oh and probably the most amazing this is the 50 watts he shaved off the GPU power draw!
Stock ROM: ~150
eone ROM: ~ 100
+/- 5 watts or so.
I am a very satisfied customer.
Now he does not require payment but if you don't offer, or actually give, then you are a
rather horrible person. Maybe look at it this way, he is giving you 16% on mh/s and saving you a TON on electricity costs. DON'T BE CHEAP. His work is worth it.
Again, I cannot recommend eone enough. I know this is only my second post here but I'm not one to post much on any forum... because I am long winded
My first post was asking if there was an idiot's guide to mining. I eventually figured it out on my own. Once I had 1 GPU running, I immediately contacted eone. I was hooked and needed more power
I will try to write it up again but all I can say is great things about eonezzz!
Took me from 24.8 to 28.8 (give it take) 16% increase on average.
