Is Local ChainData Reload Needed Since the Hardfork?

I am running mist 0.8.7, and have parity 1.4.4 in geth mode . I am also running Windows. Do we have to blow away our local "chain data" when these hard forks happen, then re-sync from scratch? I am guessing yes, but would like to know for sure. Looks like with parity, it stores its data in a "DB" folder under .parity main folder. Or is it possible that ethcore parity handles this for us?
