Why infinite number of Ethers?

Hi,
what is the reason that infinite number of Ethers can be produced?
Wouldn't be better only a specific number of Ethers to be produced like Bitcoin?
thanks

Ethereum is a fuel, if it was finite all programs would just stop running when it ran out of fuel

If it were finite, and ethers were loss, the gas price in ethers would go down because it is more scarce. A reason is that miners infact still need to be paid for a difficulty level that secures the network. Also issuance isnt infact not problematic for the value,(Infact as a fraction of the total it continuously decreases) and any 'fairness' in ability to mine also extends to the future.

Long story short, ethereum has even more currency sinks than bitcoin. Deflation can be just as painful as inflation: imagine if your mortgage rose up to twice its initial value in the course of 15 years. This would mean you would effectively have to pay twice as much as you intended to. Well, that's the sort of stuff that happens during deflation.
