Why use H81/H97?

I am building my first rig and I have noticed that a lot of people still useH81/H97 Asrock cards. But, wait a second, they have only one PCI-E X16 and other five are X1? How can this be better for instance from this card which has 3 X16 and in addition to that 3 X1 slots? Isn’t that a bottleneck to use X1 slots?

1x slots have same hashing speed as 16x also that board is 160$ and is using the sky lake chipset. From what I've heard it is pretty difficult getting skylake to run more than 4 gpus.

Also not all those slots run at 16x anyway because skylake does not have enough pci lanes.
The only way to get 2 cards to run at 16x I think is on the x99 platform?

1151 supports 32 lanes, but 1150 only 20? So it would still be better option, expect if you say skylake does not support multiple gpus. That would be a problem

Ok, so for mining 1X or 16X does not make any difference?

It doesn't make a difference for AMD GPUs. There are no bottlenecks when mining.

Nvidia GPUs, and not necessarily mining Ethereum, may experience bottlenecks over a x1 lane.

On my H81 rigs, I actually use USB powered risers in all PCIE slots, including the x16 slot, so I am plugging an x1 plug into an x16 slot and it still works fine. 5 GPUs with x1 plugs into 1 x16 slot and 4 x1 slots - no problem, hashing fine.
