so had a terrible time setting this one up but think I have some thing stable now for these 2 cards

xFx core 4GB settings @27Mh using 136w @wall 125w @card

Wattman

GPUz

Sapphire 8GB settings @27Mh using 130w @wall 119w @card

Wattman

GPUz

Hope this helps you get a good MH out your cards will less effort than I put my self though

Thank, thank you so much. I almost thought you could'nt push the 4GB Version. I also have the XFX and with your Settings it immediately boost up to 26,8-27,2 from 23,2-24,1. Thanks a lot.

    My 6x xfx rx480 4GB runs fine with <700w @Wall @24,5Mh/s

I just got my 4gb and im using 16.7.2 and it doesn't seem wattman is changing my 480s vcore (using gpuz to test), any idea?

Yeah, Wattman sucks. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Is there any other overclocking software that works for the RX 480s?

Asus Tweak may work, MSI afterburner has yet to have an update for RX 480

The xfx 4gb one worked on my xfx 4gb (not sure i have the core tho) but neither worked on my sapphire 4gb. What I mean by not work is the core clock runs at 300 if I make these adjustments. What's wrong?

Getting lots of crashes with these settings. Upped my voltage and it is still crashing.

How are you guys saving your settings? Making a profile attached to the miner exe?
  • Dum3Dum3 Member Posts: 9
raise mem voltage or lower mem freq, not all cards can handle 850 or 920 at 2200...
  • YogiYogi Member Posts: 147 ✭✭
Could also be core freq/voltage. I started with 1025mhz/1025mv's and worked down. It should be stable.. work your way down from there with voltage. Mine crashes at about 975.

i have 1 card loving these settings 27mhash and the other doing like 12mhash wtf lol

I find I get that some times...a reboot clears it most the time, if not drop the core clock down 1-2% until it holds. you wont lose much maybe .1Mh on that card.

reboot worked mate, good settings i like them lower power lower temp and nice reliable hash

saving in what way? if they reset its because the card didn't like them and the wattman will reset the bit it didn't like like voltage or clock etc....you just have to turn it back on and adjust some thing and try again...its a bloody pain in the ass.

I had the same issue with not saving settings. You have to tune each gpu separatelly and when you change something near the button "more" (upper right corner) there will be "Apply" button."Apply" button only appears when you change something. Its kinda tricky but u will find it.Sometimes when the system is rebooted GPU settings might be back at stock so you will have to keep on eye on the system.

Hey Boysie, I gave your settings a try for my four Sapphire 8gbs, it works great. Coming from someone who is living and mining in their studio - hallelujah at that silence!

Hey @boysie I'm using Crimson Radeon Software Version 16.7.2, and I can't figure out for the life of me how you managed to change the GPU Frequency % to -16.5, as well as the Voltage Control.

From your screenshots I'm assuming you're using Crimson to change them, but when I try changing the Frequency to -16.5%, it automatically moves back to 0! Same with Voltage Control, it says N/A on all States and wouldn't let me change anything. Only things I can change are Memory, Fan, and Temperature.

I'm using 2 XFX 480 and 1 Gigabyte 480. Here's a screenshot: (can't change the Frequency so I set it back to Dynamic for now)

Would you happen to know why this is happening?

Hm I see, thanks! I stopped my miner, managed to apply to save the settings, but when I run genoil, it resets back to 0.

Regardless, I'm getting roughly 74 MH/s just with temperature and FAN tweaks out of my 3 cards so I shouldn't be complaining.

Once I get my remaining 3 cards, I'll post a couple of pics of it. My mining+gaming rig looks pretty sick with a 0.7 meter server rack!

Only complaint is that I can't crossfire, since a RX 480 occupies "two" PCIE space (1 slot) so I had to plug one RX 480 on the mobo, and the rest via raisers.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet but applying the wattman setting and then restarting the comp works for some of my 480s

    Thanks for your/parity's efforts boysie!

Do you think you can put yourself thru trying to get that to work in Ubuntu 16.04? Those of us that have it working get about 16Mh/s and thousands of GPU faults per second.

@Ethering Have you tried using a different miner like Genoils and a pool? Do you get the same errors with those different variables?

alas I'm a windows man sorry....can only handle Linux in a dumb ass noob format of copy and paste through ssh I have no idea at all about even the basics. :(

Hopefully ethOS will get there soon and provide this for people to purchase.

    Boysie

PS: if you have the hardware you are only 20min away from it fully working on windows and that's point and click for any noob can setup....to me it seems silly to make this harder than it needs to be ...given all other cards can not under volt on Linux and you must do this with these cards else you will cause the power fright between the mem and the gpu. you can repro it on windows by leaving the power set to default or auto and only changing the clocks/mem, the only way to over come it is to raise the maxpower% and then this card eats power like your wouldn't believe while still getting shit perf. I've tried for many hours to get a better clock/mem/MHs but it looks like this is near the sweet spot at least.

@boysie Wasn't the power draw fixed in 16.7.1 driver update already?
Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1 Highlights
The Radeon™ RX 480’s power distribution has been improved for AMD reference boards, lowering the current drawn from the PCIe bus.

Or is this some other issue that you're referring to?

    @boysie
Thank you and you are right in that windows is much easier. I'm new to Linux so I'm trying to force myself to learn it via this project and others.

In the link to that other thread they solved my issue and are able to adjust the power settings (don't know if that is directly via voltage).

The solution to my problem (for others reading this) was I needed the most recent branch of ethminer, which is genoil branch "110" that compiles itself to version 1.1.7.
    https://github.com/Genoil/cpp-ethereum/tree/110

Now I have no errors in the logs and I'm getting 22Mh/s.

@boysie appreciate the help bro, got my 8gb 480's today and got this exact setting on. Just wondering, is it ok to have the temperature hovering around 80-82 Celsius? I left the fan setting to stock, speed at around 55-56% @ 2100-2200 rpm. It is hashing well hitting 27mh/s just not sure tho if its ok to have the temp soaring this much esp if I will leave it running 24/7. First rig of mine, would appreciate any feedback.
