The last few days I have put some time into getting the ethereum c++ client running. On the forums it is clear I'm not the only one. I wonder if there is enough interest in the following idea to put some effort into it:
Maintain a reference virtual machine build using:
- Virtual box as software (free, runs on multiple operating systems as host)
- Ubuntu 13.10 as guest
- A working installation of the GitHub version of the ethereum clients (cpp, go, python later on)
- Any scripts and tools usefull when working with the client, adding contracts, etc.
The image could be distributed via torrents. It could be used as a reference version of a developement environment for contracts in the future. Once the first version is released, any could improve it (security, stripping unneeded parts, etc.).
