I'm new & trying to learn the ropes here. I understand that if solo mining, one needs to (obviously) have some way of keeping sync'd to the current state of the blockchain, which is the role of geth/eth/etc.
However if I'm mining via a pool, doesn't the pool keep track of the current state, and simply inform my machine? I'm not running geth currently with my pool miner so I'm guessing this is the case. However, I did synchronize the blockchain initially. My question is - is it necessary to initially synchronize the blockchain from genesis if I'm only going to use a pool? It took me the better part of a day when I did it initially so if I can avoid this for future rigs, that would be ideal.
