Request: Post password instructions that were given for the presale last year

shawnlearyshawnleary Member Posts: 20
I kept my password and it isn't working, so i may have had caps lock on or modified it for some reason during the process. WOULD LOVE to see the actual instructions that were given back then. If someone has access to it, please message me. thanks. i also made a couple copies of my json so i know it isn't corrupted.

My brother in incorrect passwords, according to this reddit thread:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/3g6aw0/i_lost_my_password_to_my_presale_wallet_admit_it/

... per the Ethereum devs, the requirements were:

"greater than or equal to 8 chars, at least one of of each: uppercase, lowercase, number, symbol; no inclusion of strings from a dictionary of most frequently used passwords"

Haven't seen that verified anywhere else yet, but no one's refuted it yet either.

Also, not sure if you've seen it yet, but here's a tool that has been extremely helpful for me and others:

    https://github.com/ryepdx/pyethrecover

Basically let's you do a poor man's brute force. Maybe it'll help.

If you find out anything on your journey that helps you crack your password, definitely appreciate you sharing what you've learned!!

    Best of luck,

you are a gentleman and a scholar! this is going to help!! I swear I use Keeper for everything, i don't know what happened that day. much appreciated.

@PoorPythonProgrammer "They failed to mention that if you put a parentheses in your password, you're screwed. It won't unlock.
If any of you have a parentheses in your password, and you can't unlock it, find the command to do a password change. Then it should work."

from the same thread. i believe i have parentheses in mine.

@shawnleary just wanted to make sure you saw this post, very relevant to your cause:

    https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/2588/password-requirments#latest

A ton of useful info there, but one thing in particular I'd highlight--he gives a link to the actual pre-sale website. Besides helping to jog your memory, it also lets you see the password requirements: of note, it's a minimum of 10 characters, not 8!

    Hope this helps.

I have checked the balance on 1 of my presale wallets and it is showing not showing any balance.

can someone let me know if there is another way to check the balance?

    it should be 3093.73 ether.

That parentheses thing is nonsense. My password contains at least 5 parentheses and a bunch of other symbols. It's never been an issue. All text and code for the website is still on github, including the presale engine itself.

Ok sweet! Saw it on reddit, so figured it was a toss up if accurate. I ended up guessing my passphrase a few minutes ago. The reason I hadn't pasted into Keeper app, i have no clue, other than all I did was add a # and capitalized a long passphrase that I use for a certain account on the regular. Thanks everyone for the help and for those in the same boat, keep positive!

As for me, I'm not so lucky. I've been attempting tens of variations of the password I have recorded and no ado. I wonder what the deal is? I recorded my password in 3 separate locations; and my wallet says it's wrong. what the ?

Someone who purchased ether on the same day as me got theirs...so I have no idea what the HECK is up with my password! I've used the pyethrecovery.py tool but that only makes it easier to know what I know already. Is my ether gone for good? Will this be another lost 2075.84673243 ETH on the blockchain like what happened with Bitcoin?

Maybe Stephan can help me reclaim my ETH.... 007b9fc31905b4994b04c9e2cfdc5e2770503f42 ... it now being impossible to import my pre-presale ether into MyEtherWallet, unlike others.

    www.walletrecoveryservices.com - SCAM?

Hi. At once I want to apologize for the English, it is not my native language. Therefore perhaps there are a lot of mistakes in the text.

I ask community to help to understand to me in the circumstances. The person for the help in selection of the forgotten password for the BTC of a purse asked me recently. The purse had balance 100 BTC. I included the program and some time without success tried to find its password. Then to reduce search time I decided to ask for the help more qualified specialists. And readings information in a network I found the DAVE BITCOIN http://www.walletrecoveryservices.com/service in a search result

I contacted Dave E-mail: [email protected], is lower a correspondence screen. Where told it a situation. And Dave agreed to help with selection of the password for payment of 20% of the sum. I installed the program which is recommended on the site Dave and which allegedly has to subtract the password from confidential keys after dump. But actually, as it appeared there is something other and Dave receives as a result of decoding not the password the phrase and your private keys. Also can do then with your coins anything and not return them to you.

All archive after dump was sent to pywallet.py 17.02.2016 at 1.01 o'clock local time.
Lower link to archive and screen. It is sent to the address DaveBitcoin [email protected] .com,

After a while 8-10 hours of a coin from a purse were transferred by someone to other address. Here link to transaction: https://blockexplorer.com/tx/d298a4010c034e31290077b332102457ebdd8cbf1d1b22b15404fadf695d0db4

After that Dave didn't contact some hours. But late at night he at last wrote. He writes me, the purse was stolen and other owner, I at Dave had an address E-mail to which contacted the new owner and it type translated coins. It Dave as if has no relation to transaction any more.

It guarded me and I wrote the response letter of Dave where asked to provide correspondence or the Email address new, allegedly the owner of a purse. For clearing of a situation. I didn't receive the answer to this request.

The next morning the owner of a purse who initially asked me for the help contacted, I depicted to it a situation as is. He assured me that he is the real owner but not someone another and asked to return quicker to it it BTC.

Now I have a difficult situation on the one hand the owner of a purse who demands to return its sum. On the other side of Dave which used means but doesn't wish to return necessary part back. How to me to arrive? I have obligations to the owner of a purse, perhaps I should collect the necessary sum. Yes I am very cautious now because my 2075.84673243 Ethereum are also locked up and I am attempting to recover them into a wallet with no progress as of yet.

Hi All. This user, krisnikx, is posting bad feedback about me on various forums.
I suggest you all just ignore him. However, if you are interested, the history and background of this 100 BTC wallet is explained near the end of the thread at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=240779.msg13956227#msg13956227

Please note that a lot of people have had "wrong password" issues with the mist GUI client (at least on Mac), even though the passwords are correct. Before you give up and use a third party to recover your password, make sure it's not just this bug you are experiencing. Please investigate other ways to validate your password or see the other wallets and services that seems to work fine.

Okay this guy Dave Bitcoin is legit but I would't trust him for millions. There is a service that combines bruteforce with attorney protection, I think it's called Bitcoin Recovery Co.
