Best OS to mine?

Hi,

I have a computer I don't use anymore. And I was thinking I could use it to mine some ethers, to help to test the network. And because i am really curious to see how it works :) Just for fun, you know...
I never mined any crypto-currency before, so I am quite a newbie in this field...

But is there any OS I should use more than another? I suppose a Linux distrib is better... But then, which one? And is there some tricks to optimize it?
My PC is with an old Q6600 for the CPU and a MSI GTX640 Cyclon for the GPU.

Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Tourach.

Hi Tourach, we haven't decided on a mining algo yet, so if someone says they know the answer to that question, then they are lying :) The latest info on this is is at : blog.ethereum.org/2014/05/15/long-range-attacks-the-serious-problem-with-adaptive-proof-of-work/
