Looks the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 470 8GB OC is the only 470 that comes with 8Ghz memory. @budhzie's 25.3MH at 104W sure seems pretty hard to beat in terms of efficiency. Think I'll bite the bullet and get me a few of them cards, even at a slight premium.
Making the timing adjustments in BIOS for RX470/480 is straightforward enough, I'd just need BIOS dumps and a linux-using guinea pig to actually test them out & put to good use.
I'm seeing a lot of Hynix memory on RX470s (Powercolor, Sapphire, ASUS) so they are unlikely to reach quite the same heights as the Samsung-equipped 8GB cards... but they definitely should be capable of +25mh
@th00ber Just an update. Finally plugged in the kill-a-watt today. With all 6 cards running (4x 8gb 480s, 2x 4gb sapphire nitro 380s), I am getting 845-848w at the wall. System idle was 125w (a lot higher than I expected tbh), so we are talking average 120w per card.
Tonight, I will disconnect the 380s and re-test to give pure 480 measurement.
@Jotun70 The best way is to have the system running check, then add a card and check again. Because in idle mode the card are still consuming something so it is harder to evaluate

Well, what I'll do is get it down to 1 card, measure full load, then add a 2nd card and measure full load again. With some basic subtraction, that should give nearly exact consumption for an individual card.
I have my monitor cable plugged into a card, so removing all of them and measuring is not going to happen... I don't feel like hassling bios changes for video output then changing it all back (all the while losing money).
@patrik2 I get 750w with three sapphire RX470 nitro+ 4gb and one sapphire 4gb OC (platinum) on win 10. 21.7 Mh/s/card on average (before local and global optimization). Minus 60w for CPU=170W/card on average (before applying adjustments). maybe Ethos is more optimized re power? Good to know, thanks.
now i haven't any 470 cards (my rig is 380s) but i want to buy some 470s and can't decide what is better choice. Now i choosing versus Po.Co. Devil 4GB for 200$ and Nitro + 4GB for a 210$. I don't know what is better now. Your Devil result 27 mh\s is awesome, but if nitro + too can give 27 mh\s it's better for me bcs i can buy this card in my town.
So. Waiting for someone share his nitro + 4GB results with moded bios....
Just noticed this thread.. So are you guys saying , that you are getting RX 480 hashing speeds w/ 470 cards, but you have to use a custom BIOS? Is that the summary:? 27Mh/s + Custom BIOS? I may have to buy some..
My best results thus far is 26.2mh using 4GB ASUS 470 (hynix VRAM) clocked at 1100/1850 and with timings adjusted several notches. Pair of cards using 278w at the wall (EVGA 1000w Platinum)
Still experimenting, will share further details once I'm certain it's stable.
I don't know just how far timings can be tightened along with an overclock, I've seen people report 27-28mh and mention clocks but without info on timings it's hard to replicate.
@vtk any details you can share on your 470 mods? @Heliox you ever end up grabbing a 470?

i use SAPPHIRE NITRO RADEON RX 470 8G
with Ubuntu
I have tested diffrence BIOS Version:
1. the Normal Standard BIOS
24 mhs / 200 Watt (whole System)

2. the OC Standard BIOS
24 mhs / 240 Watt (whole System)

3. Change Values with the Polaris Editor
24 mhs / 190 Watt (whole System)

What values do I need to change so that I reduce the power and the increasing MHS??
thx lg Martin

@Heliox you ever end up grabbing a 470?
Yeah i did, plugged it in, nothing.
Bought 96 Nano's end of January, not a single dead one. Flashed those cards like 5 times, all of them, kept on running.
I buy 1 470 and it's dead on arrival
So my testresults will be a little later
Is it simply a case of load bios editor copying the timings from the 1750 bracket to the 2000mhz, save and flash?
yes - copy the value from 1750 -> 2000
-> Screenshot

I have some cards that have am 1850 timing as well , would you replace the 1850 and 2000 timings with the the 1750 one ? and why
also how about undervolting, I noticed some folks just set all the higer core clocks to a fixed value so it does not exceed that one.
