    470 4gb: better watts in gpuz 80-82.5w @ 28mhs dual mining -12.5%(1065)/880mv and 2000/850mv

which model of 470 4gb do you use ? I see that Asus is at this moment worthless because can't be pushed over 21-24 mh. Which rom you used on them ?
We use sapphire reference card 4gb OC.

Sorry for cross posting, but both 470 threads are in full conversation on the topic I want to bring up.

I'm currently trying my first attempt at flashing. I finally wrote a ROM, created a bootable MS-DOS image (using Rufus) and extracted Atiflash 2.74 onto it with the custom ROM.

Problem is, when I plug the USB into my ubuntu rig, boot into MS-DOS and run 'atiflash -i', I'm getting 'this program cannot run in dos mode'.

    Any ideas?? :\

You cant flash RX 480/470 cards with older versions of atiflash. You need to use latest atiflash version and unfortunately, it does not work under ms dos mode. In past I used also ms dos bootable windows 98 usb to flash cards but that does not work anymore with RX cards. So you either need to flash them in Windows or maybe create windows 10 bootable usb (not sure it will work I did not tried that one).

@cveks, if you read one of my more recent comments/edits you'll see I installed windows 10 onto a USB and it eventually worked perfectly.

After spending about 12 hours trying different (39) combinations of settings, it looks like the best I can get from my Asus strix 470 4gb is about 24.5mhs. This is with 1000mhz/800mV core, 2000mhz/800mV mem. With 1500 strap all the way up to 2000.

I was able to get them up to around 26-27, but after a few minutes would drop to about 21. No matter what I do, I can't seem to change the fan speeds though. Tried changing min, med and high pwm to 80% but the cards are still quiet and subdued as fuck. Using Polaris BIOS editor. I'm sure I could push it a little further with some know how...

Edit: forgot to mention the whole (6 card) rig is using about 850-870w at the wall.

stay away from asus/gigabyte/msi = They all have slower mem

    stock = 20mh
    OC = 22mh

I'm at 22mh on stock Nitro+ 4gb (stock is 1260mhz). Undervolt unstable at 960 mV, stable at 980 mV (three days straight no problem), trying 970 mV right now. Power draw for the card 100-105 watts on average according to gpu-z. Seems okay for now, but I can't wait to have a few hours to dedicate to OCing memory and tweaking the bios.
  • Zorg33Zorg33 Member Posts: 220 ✭✭
    That is very bad efficiency.
You can underclock gpu to 1000mhz and still maintain that 22mh.
That will be stable at about 880mV.
Dont forget to also set 880mV for mem.
You will have much better efficiency that way ~95W at the wall.

I've tried flashing my core/mem voltages with stock settings, undervolted settings (from 800mV to 980mV), different power limits etc etc. Always remembering to keep the core and mem voltages the same to avoid any supposed bugs.

And my watts at the wall has never even changed in the slightest. The only thing that lowers my power usage is lowering the clocks. Anyone else experience this?

With the Asus strix 470 4gb on Ubuntu.

@xeno i had the same Problem on my 470 -> you need a offset
  • XenoXeno Member Posts: 58
@Blue1984 what does that mean?

I'm assuming that's not possible in the BIOS editor? Any good info you can provide/link me?

    Thank you :)

seem that all over 26MHs is useless, 26mhs is possible to set 50w in gpu-z, but real draw on wattmeter is about 80W. So 2Mhs+ for 20-30w+ is not effective
  • ftozftoz Member Posts: 13
I have also rx470nitro 4gb, noticed, that some roms for nitro is 256kb, but my dump rom has 512kb, so nitro dual bios is 2x256 or 2x512?

all of them is 512, but the second half is empty.
    So 256/512 does not matter.

I want to get Asus RX 470 Strix 4 GB to test . Anyone pushed this card above 24-25 mhash in ethereum?
  • ftozftoz Member Posts: 13
i done some experiment with rx470 nitro 4gb hynix and try different memory timings:
    1000strap-bios : win dont boot
1125strap-bios : win boot with atefacts
1250strap-bios : win boot ok: claymore miner eth only result [email protected]: 25.80 Mhs
1375strap-bios: claymore miner [email protected]: 25.73Mhs
1500strap-bios: claymore miner [email protected]: 25.33 Mhs

1375 strap timing seem very good, gives about 0.4 mhs more than 1500strap and its stable on mem 1950 with hashing. Maybe someone with this bios can pass 30Mhs on rx470 4gb.

Very important factor for effective mining is also gpu load. Check it on gpu-z and must be all time 100%. In some setting it gives me higher hasrate, but gpu load goes down often, then it mine less shares. Claymore dont report nothing, only lines spawn are less.

According my mensuration on wattmeter, rx470 4g hynix is most effective around 26 Mhs with mod bios. 1000 core and 1850 mem, both 800mV hash well with gpu-z power 58W so its about 80W total per card
  • cvekscveks Member Posts: 62
how do you arrange that GPU load is 100% all the time? You increase power limit for like 10-20%?

if y run on win, must tune win and sdd first to not run unwanted code. Kill all services which dont need. http://www.disk-partition.com/kb/tips-ssd-optimization-windows7-1.html. Any unwanted aplication can put down hashrate, eg my antivirus auto update kill my mining, so any these need turn off. I dont move power limit anymore. I tune power only by core and mem voltage from claymore cmd. Total power draw also depend on power supply, so if y use normal cheap power supply then it has about 60% efficiency, that mean 40% of all enengy is lost on power supply warm. In that case y can easy watch 100w for iddle for low power system and seems strange, but in real system consume 60w and 40w is lost. So for mining is usefull high efficiency power supply. 80 gold label means 80% efficiency, for mining if very useful.

i use quite old mobo and cpu, semptron 1100le , 2gb ddr2 and old GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD3P, so little lose hashrate, but very cheap, power supply also so old http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194019 . If y tune it, its quite amazing, turn in bios all unwanted to get less watt, serial ports, audio, cpu also can undervolt to safe.

Remove all but one card. Then confirm things work. Then add one gpu at a time and see if it is a specific gpu that is causing the problem.

when you tweak RX 470 nitro+ (or other cards) in Wattman, do you need to restart each time you adjust one card or you can adjust all of them, then restart?
Anybody uses Trixx for Sapphire cards instead of Wattman?
  • theclamtheclam Member Posts: 91
disable mining. Set settings for each card. Reboot and restart mining.

I bought Asus Strix rx 470 with hynix memory and so far my best result is 28mh/s with 1100core/1950 memory, 850mv, 1375 bios strap, power draw 145-150w from wall entire system with gold evga 1000w psu, adjust for roughly 45w idle, ~100-110w per card. I'm happy with this setting, now testing for permanent stability, so far been testing 15 minutes only per setting, gonna try 24h next.

    what is 1375 bios strap?
    can you share your file?

1375 strap basically means copying memory timings provided by AMD to higher memory clocks, this is what most people do to increase hash rate, but typically you use 1500 one, that's why i mentioned it. Here's my modified bios, i basically only changed memory straps, i do overclocking with WattTool, use at your own risk, but it should work for asus rx470 strix version

    http://www48.zippyshare.com/v/uCDIGxpa/file.html

edit: this bios crashed a few times with memory that was stable on 1500 strap, so i wouldn't recommend it, however each card is different and might work better for you
