No reason not to use a cheap SSD at this point it would help out for the DAG process.

I use SSDs since BTC GPU mining ages and very happy with them!

if it is for a Rig that is going to be on 24/7 you can use ram to store the files
for better performance

youd get a cheap 30gb SSD that would be more then enough depending of its a stand alone miner or a pc you use thats also a miner
