@hasher it would be cutting it close, but probably be fine. Better to leave some headroom in the PSU for better efficiency tho. I'd go for a 1300W+ if I was trying to run 6 of these on one PSU. The 2x 750W and a dual PSU cable were cheaper then a 1300W tho.
@iPyrotechnical overclock the memory as far as you can, and undervolt core so it doesn't throttle and underclock. Can downclock core slightly too, because the RX 480s are memory limited, not compute limited.
@Dr_House86 Yea, now I have mine down around 100W/card and still pushing 26.9MH/s. Fans are much quieter for sure. I could trim even more power, I'm sure; but, wattman is so annoying with the inability to restore after a reset that it doesn't seem worth my time fiddling with it.
I have a concept in mind. It would be a seven foot cylindrical tower inside a rectangular box. The cards would face inwards to a outlet tube that would go outside. There would be positive pressure outside (from the box) to force the air past the cards to the outlet. This way the hot air would go outside during the summer. In the winter I can change the directions of the cards and fans on the surrounding rectangular box and have a negative airflow into the house warming it in the winter. In the summer it goes up to 40'C and in the winter to goes to 40'C so this would be extremely efficient. Thoughts that come to you when you are pulling weeds in the garden. /0
A new test rig of mine. Using Ref 12 x 290's with @Heliox recommended 390 mod roms. Still needs work with more air flow control and mounting the PSU's. Hope to get that under control this long weekend.

@stoon These look amazing! Any pointers/dimensions you could give me? I've got all R9 290 ref and RX 480 cards. Looking at purchasing 6 more, but don't have the room to build another horizontal rack. Mounting 12 of these veritically on the same rig is a great idea and would save me room!
@stoon whats with the plastic sheets hanging and tubes - is that some kind of heat containment and exhausting solution? What are you doing and how is it working? Would love to reduce this heat in my basement.
Great simple design, @Dr_House86. Those 480s look awesome; I really love the reference blowers for mining - suck air off the cool floor and blow it towards the ceiling. Works so well.

5x MSI R9 390s. Planning to get a 6th card in soon. I custom built the case with parts from lowes.
Sure mine are only pushing 24Mh/s, but my whole rig needs only 650-700w @ wall.
Looking to make a design that would scale well.
4x HD 7970 and a R9 290x in another milk crate rig. AX860i and a 750 P2 for power. Z97 Anniversary, G3258... Yeah standard stuff
In the summer it goes up to 40'C and in the winter to goes to 40'C so this would be extremely efficient. Thoughts that come to you when you are pulling weeds in the garden.

Won't the plexiglass deform due to heat?
6x XFX RX480 4GB
6x XFX RX480 8GB
155mh/s @ 800W each.
Target Temp 70° Celsius
Fan: 1500-4000rpm
With 25-30° Celsius ambient temperature: 2000-2500rpm fan speed.
External Fan not needed, only if its for longer time really hot.
Well thought out design.
4 XFX RX 480
530w at the wall
Now iam done with my rigs, my powergrid is now on the limit.
480mh/s @ 2400W eth
~ 7000mh/s sia ~100w more per rig
All seems running fine.
Which gpu's?
Outside temp?
The 480s are really 'cool' and I love the rev design, heat goes in one direction.
