IoT project - help to choose hardware

Hi,
At this moment we want to build home security(IoT) with access to control panel from phone and panel. Idea is that we could connect all special equipment to your main module through wifi and control it without any wires. Just wanted to ask you guys of what main hardware would be best to build it what I just mentioned? Not including only Rasberry pi.
Please help.
