mining on cheap PSU is always dangerous
the reason we use high end PSU is so we dont create fire hazards

I agree and considering you could blow one or more GPU's it's not worth the cost!

I had a EVGA 750w psu pop and sparks go everywhere.

my made in china 1600w PSU has been running stable for 5 months.

So... I dont know. There's no such thing as a safe PSU.

True, it is the luck of the draw!

However, when that Chinese PSU goes it will be like the Chinese New Year. I very much doubt they build in any safety features.

For reliability I always for a Corsair and that's why they offer a 10 year warranty on their ax1600i.

u can always get lucky with a cheap PSU but the chances are slim
if a 750w sparked when it went then it wasnt gold
and if it was gold it was a defect that only effects a small amount vs a large amount of cheap PSU

it was an EVGA GQ 750 gold.

To recap @suthek bought a good quality PSU and the reviews confirm this. It comes with -

Heavy-duty protections, including OVP (Over Voltage Protection), UVP (Under Voltage Protection), OCP (Over Current Protection), OPP (Over Power Protection), SCP (Short Circuit Protection), and OTP (Over Temperature Protection)

Yet, it still managed to blow up. However, there could have been another problem and the PSU was not to blame!

So you really think the Chinese one is going to have the above safety features.

Ideally you should go for a Platinum power supply as they have better components to achieve the higher efficiencies.

my point is any PSU can blow up.. just relax and enjoy the ride.
    And it's on a clean 240v source on a 30a circuit.
Server Grade PDU hooked up with dual split 15A segregation.
Current draw on circuit is 20amp. (66% of capacity.)

To accomplish this 20amp draw, I have 7 PSU's hooked up.
3 of which are EVGA GQ 750's.
    1 are Corsair HX1000i's.
    1 is a Corsair HX850w
1 is thermaltake something something 850w. (gold rated... nothing special)
1 is a 1600w made in china special.

Of all of those, the only failure I've had is the EVGA.

However, if I had to pick, I'd pick the corsair HX850w's and HX1000i's.
The HX850w is a good gold rated budget 850w PSU with lots of connectors and thick cables.
the HX1000i is the lambo of power supplies. I love all the connectors and the cold quiet operation. But they are expensive.

and my point is the same as lablett
the chinese cheap PSU does not have safety features that would stop it from exploding
yes even a gold rated, even a plat rated, PSU can spark
but the likelihood of this compared to a PSU that has been built without safety is tiny
when uptime is key and ur only buying 1 or 2 PSU
why would u want to go with something cheap that commonly will explode?
    great u got lucky
wanna try ur luck again? would u trust falling alseep next to ur rig?
all the other PSU u listed off are gold with one plat
yet u are basically encouraging ppl to buy a cheap PSU
based on the ONE lucky PSU u got
despite what others who buy 20+ PSU a year say
i mined on a $20 550w PSU when i started, thankfully went it failed less than a month later, it just failed
if its not good enough for a data center ur not gonna want to run it 24/7 with 10amp+ running thru it

do u think i work for some PSU company or something?
do u think theres some sort of ulterior motive for me telling ppl to not buy cheap PSU?
this isnt "the man" trying to lie to u and make u buy something u dont need lol
