ETH sent to ETC address

Hi all,
I made a stupid mistake, I sent ETH to Kucoin but used the ETC address of my account there. They say that my funds cannot be recovered. But I hears somewhere that since ETC and ETH use the same blockchain, recovery could work. Is there anybody who can help?
