There's no way to prove it's not. Any Ether purchased during the crowdsale can't be safely transferred until the genesis block. Even if they have the 1mil Ether, there's nothing stopping them from just keeping it.

@Semiel is quite correct - there is no way to guarantee when someone transfers you a wallet before the creation of the genesis block that they also have not kept a copy for themselves.

Is the price of Ether likely to rise when the release happens? If so, I can see the appeal of purchasing something like Ethercoin now. Otherwise, what's the point?

perhaps a "Don't buy Ether from other sources" category should be created to prevent any further repeating the statements above..
