    This works….MSI Z170a gaming pro carbon motherboard……
But only thing is…..your windows 10 installation should be in uefi or it should support uefi in bios not legacy……windows hardrive should be in gpt format…..other wise the above 4g setting won’t work and u will get a black screen when u try to boot in to windows 10…….I used 16.9.1 driver for my amd Rx 480 nitro+oc cards

    My setup is
MSI z170a gaming pro carbon motherboard
    Rx 480 8gb nitro+oc graphics cards
Usb powered risers 1x to 16x for graphics card
    I5 processor(a cheap one)
Ram Kingston hyper fx 16 GB 8×2
    Kingston 120 GB SSD
Thermal take 1200 watt power supply

Hello, I'm new to the forum, I am following your guide,
    my configuration:
    i5 6600k
    MSI GAMING Z170A PRO CARBON
    Corsair 16 GB DDR4
    Intel 80GB SSD
    4x RX 480 Nitro + 8gb
    1x R9 390 Nitro 8gb
    5x Riser 1x to 16x
    Corsair 1200w

    I have this problem:
    I followed the tutorial ...

if the active Above 4G Decoding = Boot and then hangs (ssd stops blinking, screen on and black, no image)

if not active Above 4G Decoding = Boot Windows and complete, but only two RX 480 work, the others are in conflict

    What should I do?
  • DrawdeDrawde Member Posts: 32
I had the same problem with the 4G decoding hang but had no problem getting 4 RX 470s working fine with Windows 10.

Working on this now, at the same point of getting a black screen. Will update if i can get it working.
  • DrawdeDrawde Member Posts: 32
The only way I could fix it is to reset the BIOS settings by shorting the two pins on the MB. It is documented in the manual.

First of all, use Google Translate to write ... I'm Italian

    Ok ...
    Yesterday:
copied and flashed new BIOS of this page

Then I beat my head against all the walls of the house

I describe what I did this morning ...

    1) reset Bios

    2) I downloaded in the laptop with Windows 10 .IMG Media Creation Tool Pro ... Windows (in my case Italian) x64 only

    3) with rufus 2.6 as explained in this videoo ( I prepared USB support

    4) Connected USB key, keyboard + mouse, Intel 80GB SSD to the motherboard, but without video cards (graphics cards with 3 long beeps and a blank screen)

    5) He entered the Bios:
-del or F1 depends on the case
    -F7

    -Settings / Advanced
    --- PEG = 0 "Gen 1"
    --- PEG = 1 "Gen 1"
    --- PCI Latency = "32 (default)"
    --- Above-4G "Enabled"

    -Settings / Integrated Peripherals
--- On Board Lan = "Enabled"
    --- Sata Mode = "AHCI"
    --- Audio = "Enabled"
    --- HPET = "Enabled"
    --- everything else "Disabled"

    -Settings / Integrated Graphics
    --- Initiate Graphic = "PEG"
    --- Shared Memory = "64"
    --- IGD = "Disabled"

    -Settings / USB Configuration
    --- All = "Enabled"

    -Settings / Windows OS Configuration
    --- Windows 8.1 / 10 = "Enabled
    --- Windows 7 = "Disabled"
--- MSI Fast Boot = "Disabled"
    --- Fast Boot = "Enabled"
---> = Secure Boot Secure Boot Support = "Disabled"
---> = Secure Boot Secure Boot Mode = "Standard"

    -Settings / Boot
--- Boot Mode Select = "UEFI" (now you can not change)
    --- Boot Option # 1 = "UEFI USB KEY"
    --- Boot Option # 2 = "UEFI Hard Drive"

    -Settings / Save & Exit
    ---> Save Changes and Reboot

    Now Part Installing Window 10
Just load the language selection screen, press Shift + F10
    It opens a CMD window
    write:
    "Disk part"
    "List disk"
"Select disk x" (x = is the disk on which you install)
    "Clean"
    "Exit"
close CMD and continue installation of Windows 10

Now Windows is installed but no video cards !!!

    Install all Drivers Motherboard

    Now I enter 1 or all Riser cards (4x RX 480 Nitro + 8gb and 1x R9 380 Nitro 8gb) and ... 1 long + 2 short beeps, black screen, but I think that windows works.

I do not understand where I'm wrong Huh

    I FOUND THE ERROR !!!!!!

A few days ago I changed the firmware of Sapphire RX 480 Nitro + 8gb,
to do so I moved the switch to the side of the connections ...
by chance I came to my mind and I put affixed to it and ...

IT WORKS, IS ALIVE, I CREATED A MONSTER

Now I'll have to redo the firmware of the cards and try Claymores

    Thank you all

    Hi realether,
    4 x Sapphire RX 480 Nitro + 8gb
    1 x Sapphire R9 390 Nitro 8gb

But I have not changed the vbios the RX 480 ...
  • Cris0338Cris0338 Member Posts: 16
    Hello everybody...

At first I found and installed the V4 VBios in my 4 Sapphire Rx 480 Nitro + 8gb on Asus Z170 Deluxe, but then I tried to add the R9 390 Nitro 8gb I had in the drawer and Asus does not work with more than 4 cards ...
I ordered a MSI Gaming Z170A Carbon Pro that came yesterday and I immediately changed the BIOS with a lot of problems ... but this is the past ...

Now the V4 worked well before UEFI on my old Windows 10, but now I'm not working the motherboard, I have to use it Stock

vbios version of the RX 480 Nitro + Sapphire is:

    Standard
    P/N 113-2E3470U.X5W
    E347 Polaris 10 XT A1 GDDR5 256Mx32 8GB 300e/300m
    Image Size 0xE600
    CRC 0x4100

    Silent
    P/N 113-2E3470U.S5W
    E347 Polaris 10 XT A1 GDDR5 256Mx32 8GB 300e/300m
    Image Size 0x80000
    CRC 0x4700

I tried to replace the original Silent and PC works smoothly

I tried to download "Polaris" and edit the original following the parameters of the V4, but the motherboard is one long beep and two short beeps and proceed with the Windows startup, and turned black screen.

Can someone explain me how to do or where to go to find help to vbios that works with UEFI?!?!
  • Cris0338Cris0338 Member Posts: 16
    ok ...

    Problem solved...

I changed these settings in the Bios:

    by so

    -Settings / Windows OS Configuration
    --- Windows 8.1 / 10 = "Enabled
    --- Windows 7 = "Disabled"
--- MSI Fast Boot = "Disabled"
    --- Fast Boot = "Enabled"
---> = Secure Boot Secure Boot Support = "Disabled"
---> = Secure Boot Secure Boot Mode = "Standard"

    to so

    -Settings / Windows OS Configuration
    --- Windows 8.1 / 10 = "Disabled"
    --- Windows 7 = "Disabled"
--- MSI Fast Boot = "Disabled"
    --- Fast Boot = "Disabled"

    is...

    IT WORKS!!!

Sweet. Are you planning to add more gpus to this set up?
  • Cris0338Cris0338 Member Posts: 16
    of course

    I want to remove the R9 390 Nitro 8gbe and add 3 x RX 480 Nitro + 8gb

with this configuration I have a consumption 940W at Wall with 150Mh/s

    after the change should be to 1000 / 1050W with 200/210 Mh/s

    I think

I installed uefi win10 with rufus. I can't get it too boot with above 4gb decoding enabled with 1 or more gpus plugged in (it will boot with it enabled using onboard gpu) any ideas?

    Follow everything I've done ...
the board must store the certificates windows components addresses

I had alot of issues with booting to black screen even after making sure I was in UEFI mode. When I unplugged all risers and plugged into the HDMI on Motherboard it booted just fine.

After verifying the settings in the BIOS were correct with a buddy and it still not working I decided to Disable the ABOVE 4G and booting up to just one video card plugged into Riser in slot 1. After it booted it found the correct video drive and everything looked good. Of course to read all the cards you need to have the Above 4G enabled. I then shut down the computer and re-enabled the ABOVE 4G and it booted up just fine with the one card. I then shut down the computer and plugged in all Risers with Success.

    My settings are:

    -Settings / Advanced
    --- PEG = 0 "Gen 1"
    --- PEG = 1 "Gen 1"
    --- PCI Latency = "32 (default)"
    --- Above-4G "Enabled"

    -Settings / Windows OS Configuration
    --- Windows 8.1 / 10 = "Disabled"
    --- Windows 7 = "Enabled"
--- MSI Fast Boot = "Disabled"
    --- Fast Boot = "Enabled"

I'm thinking about picking up one of these boards. Have all of you with it been able to mine successfully/stable with 7 GPUs after figuring out the settings?

Hi, Im using this mother board and 6 Radeon RX 480 8 gb GPUS, but I cant get it to work..

Im on the OS : ETHOS

I can boot and mine with 4GPU's with the default BIOS settings but not with 6.

When i enter the bios settings above I get a grey screen, (ETHOS wont boot)

Any suggestions or is it getting windows 10 that is the best?

ok - I finally got my board working with five cards and what pain in the arse. I made the school boy error with installing MS Windows in legacy/non-UEFI mode.

    Some keys steps.

    a. Have just one card on the motherboard and plug hdmi/other into graphics card.
    b. Flash to bios 1.7
    b. BIOS Change - PCI Subsystem settings PEGO0 & PEGO1 to Gen 1
    c. BIOS Change - Ennure the bios is in UEFI mode check in BIOS under settings/biod and Boot mode select should say 'UEFI'
    d. Install MS Windows
    e. Check you are indeed running in UEFI mode. Open the System Information Utility (Win Key + "R" > "msinfo32" > OK). In system summary, look for "BIOS MODE".
    f. Check you can see all your cards in device manager and they will not be working yet.
    g. Install AMD driver and this will take some time and not all the cards will work.
    h. Reboot and enter bios.
    i. BIOS Change - PCI Subsystem settings - Above 4G Decoding - Enabled
    j. When you reboot all the cards should be working.
    k. Also remember to changes MS Windows - Advanced system Settings - Performance - set Adjust for best performance otherwise you will drop 2mhs.
