    nope, modded memory timings in BIOS.
    I might release the bios after I got home from work and it has been running stable whole day.

    BTW, anybody knows if the XFX RX 470 4GB Single Fan edition has also Hynix AJR R0C chips?
    I can pick some up cheap next week, but I need to know if they can be oc'd the same amount.

    finally my Sapphire 470 4GB ref...

    That is not even the top of it, but somewhere close.
    I know, voltages are not fine tuned yet. I should be able to push it back down to around 80-85W (GPU-Z)

    I did not touch anything except memory timings :smiley:

    Do you leave the settings the same in Wattman then, and just make adjustments via the BIOS? Or bump the memory up in Wattman as well?

    Put please screenshots of your modified BIOS settings and the settings in the wattman. We will be very grateful to you.

    msi 4gb 470 are nutz gonna buy more depending on what the 480s im getting today can do
    but was checking things after reading thru here and all my msi 4gb can run almost 21Mh at 75-80watts on stock bios
    the 8gb have micron and dont seem to do so well almost 24Mh at around 120 watts
    the asus OC seem to use way lower core clocks like the 4gb msi but use wattage along the lines of the 8gb microns but just lower Mh around 21Mh at around 100 watts
    will prolly test with bios modding this week but i got a whole bunch of raid stuff to deal with and i just got some m.2 nvme drives to play with

    When changing the mem timings in the bios editor, does that mod require to start win10 in that disable sig mode (option 7)?

    What is the memory timings you changed? I changed teymingi only for 2000 by copying the timings of the 1750 field of 2000, and I got only 25.5 mh/s speed memory 2025. Have you changed the timings in the field in 1750 from 1625 to reach 28.6 mh/s?
  • Wolf0Wolf0 Member Posts: 329 ✭✭✭
    2025 is pretty low - you can run 2100 if you bump MVDD, and a little higher with a VDDCI bump.

    @Wolf0 Interesting, IIRC you said you had 4GB Hynix memory Sapphires?
    I've been reluctant to push the OC limits while running timings from like 2-3 straps below

    Also, from what I can tell the Sapphires may be the only 470s with heatsinked VRAM, uncertain if heat will be an impact for the other brands/models. (MSI ASUS and Powercolor have bare chips)
  • Zorg33Zorg33 Member Posts: 220 ✭✭
    I am also curious about that ram cooling issue.
    Btw the key to 28+Mh is the timing from below the 1750 strap :smiley:
  • dddrgonzooodddrgonzooo Member Posts: 145 ✭✭
    @Zorg33 how do you figure out what timings work best? Just trial and error? What is the best (safest) way to test?
  • Zorg33Zorg33 Member Posts: 220 ✭✭
    Yep, because you don't have other feedback then crash/bsod/blackscreen/artifacts

    As someone said before:
    Black screen - GPU
    Blue screen - RAM

    So you can find the proper values.

    Just ordered 2 cards:
    - MSI Gaming RX 470 X 4Gb (8-pin connector)
    - XFX Radeon RX 470 4Gb (6-pin connector)

    Will be running them directly on mobo (no PCI risers), one slot x16 the other x4.
    Now my question: does it matter which card do I put in which slot?

    Does these new AMD drivers slow down the older AMD GPUs like the 280x? I want to mix the 470 with the older 280x cards in a rig

    Hello everyone,

    So I got 2 Sapphire 470 8Gb. Stock, under claymore 6.3 they do almost 24Mh/s. Not bad, but the power consumption is way to high for me. I've read a lot on these cards and it seems you can bump the shit out of them for hashrate while droping to a more than reasonable power consumption. My problem is simple: I pay 0.23cts/kWh so I really, really, need to undervolt every single one of my cards...

    I'll be honest, I don't have a lot of time on my hands with my 1 year old daughter when I come home from work, so here are my questions:

    @uray: thanks for sharing your roms, really appreciated! Just to clear things up, your Sapphire-RX470-8G-113-1E3470U.S4X-ETHMining-29MH-LowerPower rom gives what wattage exactly? I see you haven't modded the voltages, correct?

    @Zorg33 (funny, Zorg is what people used to call me ^^): what kind of wattage do you get at 28Mh/s? Care to share your rom maybe?

    Thanks a lot and sorry to make all sorts of requests as a newb...!

    RX470-8G with my 29MH rom is on GPU2, its 29MH/s (dual mining with dec 320mh) with power consumption 119w at 61C, running at memclock 2235

    updated ROM : https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6vofcgy8sqJbXVDTlhrM3E3Vms

    Sapphire-RX470-8G-113-1E3470U.S4X-ETHMining-29MH-EnergyEfficient.rom

    consume ~100W dual mining ETH+DEC =29.0MH/s + 319MH/s
    GPU temp 58C, room temperature 29C, running 100% fan

    running 4 GPUs :
    GPU0 = R9 290 stock bios, stock clocks (947/1250) = 26.7MH/s
    GPU1 = RX 480 (non-ref) stock bios, stock clocks (1300/2000) = 24.5 MH/s
    GPU2 = RX 470 (non-ref) my bios (1075/2225) (950mV / 1020mV) = 29.0 MH/s
    GPU3 = GTX970 stock bios, stock clock = 18.4 MH/s

    As my 470 8GB hates 2225.

    I've been curious what is the end of this 470 4GB with my current rom and I barely got 29mh/s :smiley:

    Next step would be tuning mem controller. I wonder what performance gain could it bring...

    I can get 2 working on one of my rig, no problem....

    photo 2200_zpsf11t718e.png

    However I cant get my 6 card Rig to boot up after pressing 7. (if I take 2 cards out it will boot into windows) going to have to have a play with it tomorrow. boots up with 6 without the hacked drive file.

    I'm having issues posting suddenly, keeps saying my message will appear once approved?...

    Anyway, if like 4-5 identical messages appear in the thread sorry for flooding.

    @uray: your low power Bios seems to work, but I'm only getting 24.7MH/s on Ubuntu 16.04. I have flashed the second bios, when I switch back to the stock bios, I get 23.4Mh/s. Any idea?

    If i drop dri to 20 in claymore, I'm getting 28Mh/s on Eth but only 276Mh/s on DCR, weird...linux driver not optimized?

    what's your temp, i got 29mh/s for gpu temp ~60C, try turn your fan 100%

    100% wont do good to the fan.
    Only use it for testing.
    Max 80% for long term.

    Do you have any idea why my card is not detected by the driver when I flash modded rom?
    unless I reflash the original bios on the card nothing helps... tried removing and reinstalling the driver, ofcource booting up windows w/o the signature verification. I followed a basic guide on how to flash it , i've tried @uray 's bios, and tried my own original bios with his modded timings... I even could boot with that one card alone, and yet the driver is not detecting the card.... anything i'm missing? :(

    @h311m4n most of the people creating roms are either not dual mining, or are running windows + undervolting as well. I'd imagine it's drawing too much power and throttling.

    This is all in the the very early experimental stage, if your not comfortable with timing editing you certainly can use somebody else's BIOS file, but you will need to adjust clocks/voltages/etc... to suit.

    @Zorg33 those of us with non-Sapphire cards also likely need a high minimum fanspeed in order to sufficiently cool the VRAM, since MSI, Powercolor & ASUS 470 heatsinks don't have any coverage for the memory.
    An undervolted card may run at ~50c core at 40% fan, but this may not be adequate airflow for their bare memory chips or voltage regulator heatsink.
