Simplified Payment Verification wallets: rather than storing the blockchain ??

It seems the Ether Wallet 0.5.2 (Beta 10) doesnt work on older computer, and , if understood correctly, requires downloading the ENTIRE ethereum blockchain (10gb +) locally??!!!

For Ether is there a Simplified Payment Verification wallets. ie wallets that rely on other full nodes for information about the ether network rather than storing the blockchain themselves. ??

I found these, but what to recommend to someone unfamiliar with the players in Ethereum development (known reputation)?

[IMPORTANT:the following list is neither complete nor an endorsement..they are posted for comment only]

    http://www.etherwall.com/
    https://www.ether.li/ <---webwallet secure?
    http://etheraddress.org/ <---webwallet secure?
https://ethereumwallet.com/ <----web by Ethereum Co-Founder Anthony Di iorio,
https://www.myetherwallet.com/ <----wallet creation from your browser
others not buggy or still under development?

The web online versions are problematic since it is difficult to explain that these are secure when generating key pairs online.( info entered on a fake webform)..

THE WINNER (IMHO) (not an endorsement.. diclosure I have not used it yet with real funds):
    myetherwallet.com
allows Client side wallet creation and signing of transactions. and more importantly can be run in browser offline. excerpt from their FAQ

    " How do I run MyEtherWallet.com offline/locally?

You can run MyEtherWallet.com on your computer instead of from the Github servers. Everything except the "send transaction" tab can be done completely without the internet, so feel free to turn your internet off.

    Go here: https://github.com/kvhnuke/etherwallet
Click download zip in the upper right.
    Unzip it.
    Doubleclick index.html.
MyEtherWallet.com is now running entirely on your computer.

In case you are not familiar, you need to keep the entire folder in order to run it, not just index.html. Don't touch or move anything around in the folder. If you are storing a backup of the MyEtherWallet repo for the distant future, we recommend just storing the ZIP so you can be sure the folder contents stay intact. As we are constantly updating MyEtherWallet.com, we recommend you periodically update your saved version of the repo. The MyEtherWallet team has no intentions of ever removing this project from Github. As long as Github is around, the repo will be accessible.
    "

What this means, I can put their webapp on a usb key , run on an offline computer.. and generate a paper print out of the address etc...

    hello guys,
I have recently made an account with ether.li and received some Ethereum fund in my public address.. I then funded my user account with the transaction fees. Now I want to transfer that fund to an external address. After I issued my withdrawal, ether.li has sent me an SMS from a number 59011 and asked me to reply back with a 6 digit code. I can't relply back to 59011. SMS not sent from my mobile. I sent an email to the admins but no response from them. Kindly help me with the withdrawal process. how can i transfer my fund with all these keys and code??

Another confused newbie. I downloaded Etherwall without realising that I would also download the entire blockchain? Does this mean that I am (inadvertently) a node?? Quite pleased if I am.
Generally speaking, is Etherwall considered a reputable and secure wallet? Thanks.
