Amazing product, great price, and consier support. Have had several 1 on 1 conversations via email with the dev and he is always happy to answer even my dumb questions. Follows up and never leaves me hanging. With my vendors at work followed this sort of support structure

Couldn't agree more @tageeboy. I had what I thought was an issue with ethOS and hit the IRC chat room up for help and @kotarius jumped right in and showed me that the system was shutting down due to my GPUs overheating. I adjusted my cooling situation and sure enough that same rig has been running non-stop since then. I have no complaints and consider this to be a worth while purchase.

I highly recommend this distro to anyone tired of dealing with Windows like I was...

Let me be the one advising against this 'product'. I bought the digital download. It took about 10 hours to get me a link, I expect a digital download to be instant. Next problem, somehow it didn't fit my Mtron 16GB SSDs. So sure, I get 64GB ones....
Next problem, it hangs at 'Restoring resolver state'. I wait on IRC for way too long, no one shows up. I just gave up, since I can have windows running in 10 minutes.

So then I file a dispute with GPU-shack through PayPal. Without any word to me they bump it up to a claim. Without any word to me, PayPal decided to rule in their favor.

    NEVER AGAIN !

That 1 post user testimonial LOL... shill much?

@JPS did you write a response to the paypal claim... ? Unfortunately, if they can show you downloaded it, paypal will usually side with the seller. But, pretty fucking bad on GPU-shack/ethOS's part.

"Restoring resolver state" has to do with either a bad GPU or a bad riser. Did you manage to get it working on windows?

EDIT: If you need help with any aspect of ethOS, please talk to us in IRC (#ethereumOS on Freenode). If you do not have an IRC client, you can use this webchat: https://webchat.freenode.net/

@work, you have been in threads where you have seen more than a few positive user testimonials. If you think that ethOS has just one positive testimonial, that is is uninformed at best, disingenuous at worst.

It was and is working fine on windows. And I have tried 3 GPUs one by one in the default PCI-e slot. All the same result. The only time I ever saw it boot to the ETHos screen was when I had no GPU in it and I booted from the onboard gfx card. I can always SSH to the rig, I can edit the conf, update...

It seems you are never around on IRC when I am, and I don't have the luxury to sit around and wait. Since I'm not getting my money back I'll fiddle with it when I have time.

@work : No, I didn't write a response to the claim, since nothing was asked from me by Paypal. And I'm not wasting more of my time on just 39 dollars. I just liked the way the screen looks when running, but everything runs fine on windows anyways...

Try to disable onboard video on your BIOS, then follow this guide http://ethosdistro.com/kb/#booting-amd-boards

Make sure to plug in your monitor to gpu0

Interested in your SSD with ETHos. What version is this software in right now? i think I heard a user say it was 2.03.

Also, is there a tutorial video anywhere?

    There's a free alternative now btw https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/5875/genethos-portable-platform-for-ethereum-mining-ubuntu-base-for-free

@work The software is free, but they will eventually start charging for the remote monitoring portion, so it's not completely free...no pricing yet for this feature

I have added a small script that calculates the total hashrate submitted by all ethOS rigs. It is around 50gh! Check it out at http://ethosdistro.com

Also, recently released version 1.0.4, changelog available here: http://ethosdistro.com/changelog/

upgraded my all rigs to 1.0.4 yesterday - Nice! keep developing good software

Until you add the ability to manage from the actual web gui and NOT have to use your website for the stats, me and a lot of people in my circles won't touch it. Just FYI.
  • kotariuskotarius Member Posts: 331 ✭✭✭
We currently do not have plans for web GUI.

Just updated my rigs to 1.0.5, temps, clocks, vlt not reporting.

    Overclocks no longer working.

Downgraded to 1.0.4 everything is working fine now.

    Explanation please.
  • TEZTOUZTEZTOUZ Member Posts: 14
is there a way to downgrade through ssh? instead of reflashing the drives?
  • kotariuskotarius Member Posts: 331 ✭✭✭
    try this:

    echo -n "1.0.4" > /opt/ethos/etc/version && ethos-update && sleep 5 && reboot
  • thesmokingmanthesmokingman Member Posts: 152 ✭✭
I've upgraded my 4 rigs to 1.0.5 and haven't had any issues. All settings were retained. Nice to be able to see the bios since I've started flashing my cards to under volt.

That didn't work it just flashed 1.0.5 again and rebooted.

Is ethos pretty easy to setup for someone with zero Linux experience?

It's very easy. Just read the Knowledge Base there are step by step instructions.

I highly recommend buying it, once you dial in your settings and stabilize your core clock you can just set it and forget it.

The miner starts up when you power on your unit and you can monitor your systems through the web portal so its hassle free.

    Go for it.

anyone has feedback on the remote monitoring and monitoring dashboard for ethos - I have bought a copy of ethos, and waiting for parts to get the 1st ethos rig up. My existing rigs are on W8.1 and Claymore Dual Miner running ETH only, and its purring like a kitten - nearly maximum speed, very stable, 0% rejects -- I am happy with this setup. But for future rigs, I think Linux should be the way to go for consistency, stability and medium to large mining farms.

The remote dashboard is a nice feature, I can be out, check in and ssh if there is an issue. Out of curiosity are you trying ethOS as a comparison to Claymore?

Does it improve your mh/s and how much? Does anyone have screenshots for it. If it improves quite alot then I will order some preinstalled SSD

I am looking at medium to large farm management so trying out Ethos.
However, Claymore is also working on mgmt and monitoring aspects of current version - so we see how it goes.
