No ether on pre-sale ether address in the online balance checker

ElegoElego Posts: 6Member
Hi, i bought ether in the pre-sale on 2 different addresses. I checked both addresses in the online balance checker (https://ethereum.org/ether). For 1 of the addresses the balance is fine, but for the other there is no balance. I think this is because the pre-sale process went wrong on that one, there was emailing back and forth with the support team at that time and i was promised that ether would be assigned to a new ether address. I still have the emails on that. Could you please let me know how i can get the ether that i bought on that address now?
Additionally, is there an explanation on how to use Geth commands? I downloaded Geth via Chocolate but i don't know how to get it to work.
I step by step guide on how to download a wallet and perform transactions would be appreciated for non-developers like me.

    So for this it would be great to know your OS you're working on ...
    This was working for me (i'm on OSX) ...

    For Genesis Block Generation

    curl -O https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ethereum/genesis_block_generator/master/mk_genesis_block.py
    curl -O https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py
    sudo python get-pip.py
    sudo pip install bitcoin
    python mk_genesis_block.py --extradata 0x11bbe8db4e347b4e8c937c1c8370e4b5ed33adb3db69cbdb7a38e1e50b1b82fa > genesis_block.json

    then check https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/wiki/Building-Ethereum

    For OSX i was processing with:

    git clone https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum.git
    git checkout release/1.0.0
    git pull
    make geth

    or just take a closer look to Installation-Instructions-for-Mac

    Start Geth with pre-builded genesis_block.json

    ./build/bin/geth --genesis /YOUR/PATH/TO/genesis_block.json

    To import your presale wallet just use

    geth wallet import /path/to/my/presale.wallet

    You should know the password you have choosen on presale!

    Start your geth console

    ./build/bin/geth --genesis /YOUR/PATH/TO/genesis_block.json console

    To check balance ...
    https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/wiki/Managing-your-accounts

    I'm using geth console and and this script to check all balances

    function checkAllBalances() {
    var i =0;
    eth.accounts.forEach( function(e){
        console.log("  eth.accounts["+i+"]: " +  e + " \tbalance: " + web3.fromWei(eth.getBalance(e), "ether") + " ether");
    i++;
    })
    };

    That can then be executed with:

    checkAllBalances();

    You should also check this page ...
    https://ethereum.org/ether

    but again ..

    From the blog

    We would also like to remind everyone that while we intend to provide a safe platform in the long term, Frontier is a technical release directed at a developer audience, and not a general public release. Please keep in mind that early software is often affected by bugs, issues with instability and complex user interfaces. If you would prefer a more user friendly experience, we encourage you to wait for the future Homestead or Metropolis Ethereum releases.
    Hope this helps .. i'm also trying to understand more how all works ...

    Check the Bitcoin address you used to transfer to the foundation BTC address and the Bitcoin TX hash.

    Thanks for the answers, i am going to take a look at this stuff (OS Windows), however i still think i need the Ethereum guys to do something with my ether address so that i can see that the balance is OK. Hope that they are reading this or that i can contact a support team or something.

    Have you got your coins back?

    I have the same problem. My pre-sale coins were sent to a wrong address and not in the wallet which I downloaded in the second time. During the pre-sale, the help desk emailed back an instruction and said they would send my coins to the wallet I downloaded in the second time (I also wasn't be able to download a wallet in the first time). I have contacted the help desk a couple of times. But I have not head back from them yet. I also contacted the info@ethereum.org and the forum mod and not heard back either. I am getting panic now.

    Same here. It looks like the helpdesk didn't find a solution yet.

    Hi guys!
    I've just tried to load the balance on one of my presale wallets and got the same problem. Already emailed HelpDesk but no news from them, did you manage to solve it?

    Just curious, did everybody here get their presale wallet issues worked out? Looks like alot of us are in the same boat and can't access our presale wallets. The foundation closed their helpdesk mail account and nobody responds to info@ethereum.org.
