Summary of position
The Head of IT Infrastructure will primarily be responsible for defining, monitoring and managing a fully automated trading & research infrastructure, spanning hardware, software, network, market connectivity as well as data management. The position also involves responsibility for the definition and implementation of the overall IT infrastructure setup of the firm. Furthermore, he/she will drive the business continuity, recovery and disaster plans to ensure maximum uptime, minimum recovery time, and the appropriate contingency plans.

IT infrastructure management responsibilities
  • Operate, monitor and develop the existing research & trading infrastructure, including data management
  • Longer term, define and deliver an IT Infrastructure, policy and procedures to operate in a global peer-to-peer marketplace
  • Communicate the IT strategy and its implementation to external (e.g., investors, auditors, regulators) and internal stakeholders
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis of IT infrastructure technologies, service providers, and hardware/software solutions and provide recommendations to senior management
  • Conduct impact analysis and provide infrastructure recommendations to meet business requirements from projects and/or business growth initiatives
  • Manage IT projects for in-house and out-sourced solutions

Infrastructure vendor management responsibilities
  • Define, measure, and monitor key operational (performance, downtime, capacity utilisation, etc.) metrics against Service Level Agreements for all IT infrastructure services, both out-sourced and in-house, including the following:
    • Database and Line of Business applications, on-site, cloud/web-based and hosted (e.g. CRM)
    • Security – employee access control, alarms
    • Hosted IT infrastructure provider (email, storage, network, server, desktop, telephony)
  • Serve as the relationship manager and primary point-of-contact with out-sourced IT infrastructure vendors
  • Manage production and outstanding vendor issues and their resolution to ensure the appropriate service levels are maintained
  • Manage the full vendor contract lifecycle: business service levels, request for proposals, cost-benefit analysis, contract negotiations and agreement

Disaster, recovery and business continuity plan responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and test business continuity plan, policy, and procedures to ensure it complies with regulations and business needs for high availability, data protection, reduced downtime and speed of recovery in case of an outage
  • Manage the implementation, and periodic review, of the cyber security strategy and standards, and to ensure that the business and its service providers comply with these standards

Essential qualifications
  • Strong academic background in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science and Electrical Engineering preferred)
  • Experience of developing, operating and managing a fully automated, highly resilient trading infrastructure
  • Experience in working with senior management to set and deliver an IT infrastructure strategy
  • Demonstrated track record in managing infrastructure projects
  • Methodical and process-oriented
  • Risk-focused, diligent, detail-oriented and quality-focused
  • Ability to prioritise and react to operational issues
  • Ability to prepare and present technological information to both technical and business audiences
  • Broad technical skills, including programming languages (mainly Java), versioning and build systems, trading protocols (e.g. FIX) as well as data storage (e.g. MySQL)

Desirable qualifications
  • Experience in crypto-assets and crypto-exchanges
