Not sure but I read some people stopped mining and sold their cards and maybe that played a role. Perhaps the same will happen as difficulty increases and people give up on mining and sell their hardware.

But probably this kind of effects would not happen within a few days but more gradually. I guess there this is something systematic, but could not find any related info.
